Title:  Custodian

Job Summary: 

The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the church campus, interior and exterior. This includes cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting restrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors, dusting and wiping surfaces, and ensuring that all areas are presentable and ready for use.

 

Probationary Period:

This position is subject to a 90-day introductory probationary period. During this time, job performance, reliability, attendance, and overall suitability for the position will be evaluated. Successful completion of the probationary period does not guarantee continued employment.

 

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Job Qualifications:

• Custodial experience or training may be required.

• Understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Pass a background check.

• Strong communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.

• Flexibility to adjust their schedule to suit the needs of the church/events.

• Motivation to work independently or with others to provide thorough, efficient custodial services to the church.

 

Responsibilities:

• Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot cleaning in all public areas of the building, including emptying all trash, cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting bathrooms, sanctuary, kitchens, offices, and narthex.

• Working with trustees and church staff to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items.

• Observing proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions.

• Performing maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, replacing disposable HVAC filters, cleaning reusable HVAC filters, restocking bathrooms, and making minor repairs.

• Conduct and document monthly visual inspections of all fire extinguishers and immediately report any concerns to the office.

• Assist with event preparation and cleanup, including setting up and breaking down rooms and safely moving and arranging tables and chairs.

• Approximately every 2 weeks, change the message on the sign out front. The office provides the messages and holiday schedules for the board.

• Take inventory of cleaners and other supplies, and submit requests to the office when items need to be purchased.

• Interact with church staff and visitors respectfully and positively.

Schedule: Part-time (up to 10 hours per week)

Salary Range: $15 to $16 per hour

EEOC:  The Custodian is a Fair Labor Standards Act non-exempt position with no benefits, retirement, or healthcare coverage. 

The Custodian will be paid bi-weekly via direct deposit.
